What are some of the options for transmitting [relatively] high bandwidth data using HAM? |
|
I don't know that much about it, but the 1240 band would be the place to do it from what I understand.
You might also do a google search for Part 15 devices. By the time you end up doing high speed data you're eventually going to want to do something that is prohibited by part 97, like encryption or commercial traffic, etc. |
| Some of the 802.11 spec channels fall in the ham band. If you have a tech license or better you can legally use amplifiers and some good gain antennas with regular 802.11gear. It has unique ID requirements and encryption key, SSID, etc have to be "public" info somehow if I understand the reg's correctly... |

Definitely an amateur radio application. ![]() |

That's really slick. You should post pics and details, that would be really interesting. |

Right now I am working on programming the computer to recognize obstructions and doing all of the hardware and software from scratch. Doing it all myself (and with a friend) is what takes so long. It is worth it though. More fun and a lot more is learned. The current communication standard is using IP over standard WiFi so it's relatively short range but it does work for now. It is an eventual project (maybe over the summer) to work on a long-range high bandwidth custom communications standard. Anyway, it might take a while but you can bet that when I start "real" work on it that I'll post up a thread! ![]() |
