I just took the Technician exam and passed.  It's not a very hard test but I've been putting it off for years.  I learned morse code along the way because I wanted to pass the code test at the time but now you don't need it.. meh.  When I have time I'll work on General.

Now I just need some extra money to get my first radio!

Give it a few.  It took almost two weeks for my callsign to show in the FCC database.

FCC = Government...   ever known a government organization to ever speedy through paperwork, other than the IRS?  lol

I showed up in the ULS database on Wed. 12/2/09

I registered with the FCC and got a FRN # before I took the test so don't know if that helped or not.

I think there have been a lot of us on the edge for a while, just now finally getting around to it.  I figured getting set up with good comms would be a good idea given the uncertain times ahead .  But I just like radios as well, not sure why I didn't get my license sooner.

Cram Class was what I did it helped as you were able to ask expierenced hams questions on certain things you were not sure of.  I wish they would put some together around here for General I would take it in a heart beat.

I'm getting about 87% on practice exams for General... I might wait until I can pass Extra then go take both.  We'll see!
