I started the SF Echolink weekly net over two years ago with high hopes. To date we have just over 100 members. Unfortunately, while we built a strong core group early on things have been on a downward slope for quite a long time. In late 2007 I contemplated pulling the plug but was convinced otherwise. Last year as participation continued to dwindle I dropped the weekly net to a bi-monthly net. Despite this change the participation has continued to slide.
As we start 2009 and what would be our third year, people are starting to unsubscribe from our Yahoo group and it's a good night if anybody checks in to the net at all. I'd say that the net has outlived its usefulness and I've decided to finally pull the plug. So consider this notice that there will be no more scheduled Echolink nets. I will most likely leave the node available in the event you want to try to reach other net members but it may not be up 24x7 like it has been. If somebody else wants to take over running a net I'll keep the node available unless you want to move it to your own node. Many thanks to those that have been active participants. I've met a lot of folks I count as friends and look forward to keeping in touch on the forum, via email, and on the air. For those that aren't already on my access list I won't be sharing my node info. I just wanted to put this out since I received a number of returned emails so apparently people didn't bother notifying me of address changes as I'd requested. 73 |

I was a lurker for a very long time before actually getting an account (about 2 yrs ago), but I completely missed that thread.
Too bad... sounds like it might have been interesting. I don't have any experience with echolink, but have seen the repeaters around, and wondered what it was all about. I assume you're in the SE US. What kind of coverage did your net have? |

i know myself, briarhopper, and one or two others (KC0uob, KE5GR?) meet regularly. Some every night, some every few. I'd be more than happy to keep things updated in your absense. There is life on echolink, just not at the regularly scheduled times.
(FWIW, i always got the reminders about 12 hours AFTER the meeting was to take place. that might ahve been part of the problem) |

| Jaxshooter is prolly like WTFO, but I haven been around here for a while too, but just started coming to the SF. This is something I would be interested in too. I know the HF net thing can be fun, but I would mind having this too. If this is somethig we are going to do PM me some info! |

Briarhopper and others mentioned were among our core group. Unfortunately for whatever reason they quit participating. Perhaps these outside meetings are why folks don't bother joining the scheduled net. As for the delayed receipt of the reminders, why is this the first I'm hearing of it? I'd already changed the outgoing time to help ensure reminders were being received with enough advance notice for everyone to make it. I would have gladly looked into the problem to try and rectify it had I known they weren't being received in time. Consider the torch passed. Since it appears that folks are meeting outside of my node I'll be removing the arfcom restrictions from it and returning it to regular service. |

I know i talked to someone, and they mentioned they also got them late. I thought you knew. EDIT: i looked it up in the archive. I notified you back in october. You said you were going to change it. Don't think i ever followed up though. |
