I have a confession to make. I'm a little bit of a perfectionist when it comes to making antennas. I tried making a small vertical based upon the pac-10 for backpacking qrp use and failed horribly. My contraption would have made rube goldberg proud. It was as crooked as a three dollar bill. All be it, it worked... So, i just purchased a buddipole buddistick. It seems like a well made product. I'll post pics when it arrives. |

I have the BuddiPole Deluxe, but I have not had the time to put it through its paces.
Read the setup and tuning instructions for the BuddiStick - because the tune instructions are not included with the BuddiPole. Both are on their website. Excellent quality, fit and finish. Buy extra whips because you will break them soon enough. While at my last house I setup a 12 gage wire dipole that was eight feet off the ground, 66 feet of wire per side, total length of 132 feet. My home made dipole worked well considering the conditions. I decided to compare it to a few configurations of the BuddiPole, following are my observations: Inverted L on 8 foot mast Same noise levels, reception was almost as good as my home made dipole. Horizontal Dipole on 8 foot mast Same noise levels, reception was not as good as my home made dipole. Vertical with no counterpose on 8 foot mast Same noise levels, reception was almost as good as my home made dipole. These observations were conducted without an antenna analyzer and transmit was not verified on the BuddiPole configurations. Setup: ICOM 7000 with LDG AT-7000 tuner. If I had to do it over again, I would have never bought the BuddiPole - for I have no real world requirements like super light antenna for a back pack. If you have real world requirements for an antenna that is easy to back pack then your best choice is a BuddiPole. My ending conclusion: - Nothing beats long lengths of wire lifted high above the ground. Regards, KC |

Well, his hasn't arrived, but it's a decent antenna. I used my friend's for Field Day last year. Not bad. I'd probably buy one if I didn't already have a portable vertical. May still, though, just for the hell of it. Hey, my antenna did arrive. |
