THESE THINGS ROCK!!!
That is all. |
| Waiting for formal classes. At this point, all we did was take a couple of 'em out and do some hearability tests. I was at a fairly remote section of tunnel in the salt mines, and the other guy was at the extreme other end at surface level, and he could hear me. The old Model Is we've been using were not tied in to any repeaters, these are––crap, I just realized I might be able to talk to R32 while we're both at work! |

The XTS radio line is very impressive. Our county has about 15 XTS2500 800 mhz units that are primarily for the Cobra team. We get to exercise the batteries for a Halloween festival and it always get the "why don't we have radios like this" started. My answer is the usual, "which four of you want radios" because thats all we could have bought.
Seems like the US Marine Corp is buying a bunch of the XTS 2500 UHF units for the Integrated Intra Squad Radio (IISR). RS |

I think the quantity price is about $1300 per radio. Probably a lot more than the Icom 4008 version for sure, but really looks like a good price for what they are getting. The intra-squad radio concept barely existed before 2001 and really came into being with the purchase of bubble pack units by the troops themselves. So why are we paying the military analysts hard cash to play catchup?
Speaking of ISR's, I see that a 2000ma battery for the Icom F43 is available on the "bay" for $35.00 each. I am going to order a couple and get my F43GS back into use. The 1150ma batteries don't last 8 hrs if you do any transmitting. RS |
