If I were to use a multi band horizontal wire antenna, which direction should I mount it? N/S, or E/W? Or does it matter? southwest of Houston, TX if that matters. Patrick |

If you stretch it out E/W, then you get to talk to Yankees* and Mexicans. If you stretch it out N/S, then you get to talk to Floridians and Californians. Seriously, unless a dipole is up at least half a wavelength, it is omnidirectional. G9B - Basic antennas: Dipole The low angle azimuthal radiation pattern of an ideal half-wavelength dipole antenna installed 1/2 wavelength high and parallel to the earth is a figure-eight at right angles to the antenna. The antenna height affects the horizontal (azimuthal) radiation pattern of a horizontal dipole HF antenna if the antenna is less than 1/2 wavelength high and resulting the azimuthal pattern is almost omnidirectional. * Everyone north of I-10 |

I'm not really that smart, Mike, I copied that from a General exam study guide.
