The local public safety departments went digital a couple months ago so my Icom IC-R20 is pretty much quiet now.  I've been shopping around for a digital scanner and the two I'm looking at are the Uniden BCD396T and the GRE PRS-500 digital scanners.  I'm looking for feedback from owners of these scanners or other recommendations on digital scanners.

The 396 is the way to go in my opinion. You can add a remote head and make it a great mobile without needing to buy a second scanner for the vehicle. In my opinion the 396 sounds better than the GRE.

Thanks Jazzemt for your reply.  Well I've been doing some research on my local PS department radio upgrade and looks like they changed their freqs but didn't go digital - yet.  I got the new freqs off the Radio Reference website.  The local PS department radio system is being upgraded to Project 25 Standard.  It's been a trucked system and I've been able to follow a bit but it is a bit confusing.  Would getting a digital scanner really help stay with the radio calls?

There are nuances between the Uniden and GRE and their software/implementations, but I find the GRE works best for me for P25.  Eliminates a lot of what affected the PRO-2096 I had, in my area.

I also like Don Starr's remote implementation...
