Is there anything on the market that will double as a comms headset as well as providing hearing protection? anything sub-$300? and that will work with a yaesu series radio?

Im to lazy to look it up, but I think that Peltor makes a headset that will hook up... I dont know what it would take for your situation.

What kind of radio is it for?

There are many available options.  Some of them may well be as expensive as the radio.

One cheap solution for receiving is to just wear a pair of the earbud style earphones underneath a set of good hearing protectors.

Depending on the usage of the headset you can also homebrew something by dismantling a standard headset and then building up a headset using a good hearing protector as a base.

The Peltor Tac6s and 7s can be plugged into a radio, but I have no idea whatsoever whether there is an adapter to plug them into a Yaesu, Icom, Kenwood, Alinco, etc.

Peltor headsets are not that good.

I opted for JVC noise cancelling ear buds from Walmart.
