| I have orders overseas for the next year and I am wondering if I leave my HT (yeasu 170) with a full charge if it will hurt anything by not being charged in that time? I am heading out Tuesday so a quick answer is appriciated. TIA |
due to self-discharge, it will definitely be dead by the time you get back. it would not hurt to have a friend or somebody plug in the charger once a month for a couple of hours. if you have a spare pair of household timers you could put them in series and accomplish the same thing. set them up for one hour each, and every 24 days you'll get an hour's worth of charge. ar-jedi |

Do not leave it plugged in and charging while you're gone, since that would be a fire hazard. If it were me, I'd just ditch it and hope it's fine when I get back. Wait, if it were me, I'd ditch it to begin with and use AA packs instead. No such problems with those. |

At a minimum, charge it fully and leave it un-attached to the radio. I own the associated chargers for that radio and battery -- I would be happy to store yours and put it on the charger every couple months and mail it back when you return -- just shoot me a PM and we'll set it up. I think some of the guys here would vouch for me if you needed a reference. |
