Does anyone make a quality CB radio that has a modern look to it?  All of my ham gear looks modern and up to date and I would like to find a CB that is the same way.

I picked up a Radioshack TRC-521, There are smaller, but Im just building a RACES type box, and care about the room.

Im pretty sure that COBRA makes smaller modern looking units, maybe Midland..

But where would the echo mic be mounted?

Yes, several companies make small, easy to mount CBs.  Walmart sells one for $35 and a remote mount one for $99, mount the guts elsewhere and all the controls are on the head.  Not bad if space is limited.   I think both of those are midlands, but I can check for sure (with model numbers) tomorrow.

I picked up one of the small $35.00 Cobras from walmart last week and took it back the next day. I needed something that wouldn't take up to much space in the truck since I already have the 2 meter mounted and was hoping that this would fit the bill, sadly that wasn't the case.

I hooked it up to my power supply at the house and even with the volume all the way up I had a hard time hearing anything. I think they really want you to use the remote speaker jack that is in back. Another thing I hated was the size of the Mic, WTF were they thinking? This thing is huge I mean pear sized and all it is is a standard Mic. My Ham radio mike with the DTMF is half the size this thing is. Overall I was not pleased and would not recommend it.

That's a shame, but I guess for $35 we should not expect much.  Wonder how it would work with a heil headset?

I'm not up on the CB regs, but are there antenna limitations?  I'm pretty sure my LDG tuner will tune 11m.  It would radiate from a horizontal wire, but hopefully the height would help compensate for some polarization loss.

I don't have much interest in CB, beyond keeping another tool in the toolbox.

LG.

CB equipment offerings have really dropped off in the
past few years.  I've been looking for a good AM/SSB
CB for my friend, and most of the choices are boring.

Yeah I was hoping that there was a company out there making quality units something along the lines of Amateur Radio equipment.  Unfortunately it appears there isn't anything like that out there.

How about the Galaxy CB's like the DX939?

Nice blue lighting and LED, built-in frequency counter, and back lit faceplate. Looks like a Cobra 29 with bling. $166.25 over at Walcott CB.

+1, except they appear to be discontinued.

That's what they have on the Red Cross's ECRV LINK -- scroll down to the Front Console list.

Here's Midland's Page for a color photo.

Also HERE is a PDF link to the owners manual.

Classy looking rig! It's what I would have wanted in a CB for sure.
