Gents, This should be my last question for a little while, in terms of set up for my vehicle. I'm out of work for a few months due to a motor vehicle crash, and I've got plenty of time to surf the net and do other things. I've mentioned before about setting up the inside of my Tacoma, and I will be mounting a uniden bearcat scanner inside. I think it's a 350 but I'm not sure hte model number, it's a pretty popular smaller sized scanner. I have been told a basic 1/4 wave VHF antenna would work well for it, can you guys recommend me an antenna and cable? It will probably be mounted thru-roof with an NMO style mount. I ordered a Larsen NMO-K cable for the future dual-band radio, would that cable be appropriate for the scanner as well? If so I can call real quick and add a second cable to the order. If you guys can give me a brand/model recommendation for the VHF 1/4 antenna I will hopefully have all I'll need to be done and get the install rolling! What do you guys think? |

The same cable/NMO mounts are perfect, I recommend a simple VHF hi-band 1/4 wave, hopefully one that also covers the hamsplit starting at 144mhz as many you get from a twoway radio shop would be the higher split starting at 152mhz. Just in case you ever need to transmit on two meters with that "backup" antenna you know. If you are listening to just one band and want to spend a little more, then a range specific antenna is a good choice too. Heck, most of my scanning is hi-band and UHF so I would likely just get a 2m/440 antenna and use it. I think these are the part numbers, trying to check... Part # on a Larsen should be the NMOQW144 and it is a 144-152mhz 1/4 wave. NMOQ for the 136-512 (trimmed for freq of course) 1/4wave and the NMOQB for the black version. Heres a sheet with part numbers, have at it ![]() www.larsen-antennas.com/docfiles/ASB8/Matrix/PublicSafetyNMOMountProductMatrix.pdf |
