| I know these aren't the greatest antennas but I need something that I can setup outside my town home window when in use. My question is about mounting. I would like to be able to stick the antenna out the window and then secure it by closing the window. I picked up a piece of bar stock aluminum and the VHF connector for connecting the antenna. I plan to drill a hole in the flat piece of bar stock and attach the connector to it. Are there any problems with this setup. |
| You will prolly have to run a "ground" wire(counterpoise) from the antenna bracket and run it along the baseboard. It really isn't a ground per-sey, but an element for the whip to work against, tuning may be "touchy", and location of counterpoise will affect tuning. A tuner will help. but efficiancy will not be that good. Try to make the counterpoise 1/4 wave long, and trimming it may help in your tuning efforts. |

You will most likely require additional matching with the 40 meter hamstick. I have to use the Inducti-Match for my installation. I've had acceptable results using hamstick-type antennas in a similar installation that you describe, but have always used multiple ground wires draped directly over the grass. |
| I just had an experience with Hamsticks but this doesn't exactly answer what you're looking for so I started a new topic. See it here. |
I could get it up into my attic. I also have two 2 meter yagis and a jpole up there now. Will I have issues with that? |

You might experience some grounding issues....easiest way around it is to pick up one of the artificial ground devices (ten tec's 1217...if they still sell it comes to mind)....I believe MFJ offers one too. Really not that difficult to make...get a copy of the ARRL handbook for schematic. Try your set up first tho...might work well less all that junk....I seem to recall that MFJ offers a balcony setup system too. Correction, that Ten Tec is a #1251. |
