Does everyone just hone / file their hooks or has anyone tried the battery operated unit by berkley? I am very new to fishing as my daughter wants to learn , so don't get mad at some of my stupid questions . Thanks

Unless they're really dull right out of the package, I don't sharpen them. I use them for a little while and then throw 'em away.

I used to use a battery operated file, but found that using a hook file from Bass Pro was way faster.  I always spend the money and buy quality hooks that are very sharp out of the package, but when they need touched up it usually takes just a few strokes with the file.

FWIW, I have tried buying cheap hooks that weren't very sharp and sharpening them myself, but what I found was when I would grind off the finish of the hook at the point it would quickly rust just sitting in my tackle box.  Then it's "dull" again!
