What do you plan on using it for?

Ugly Stick makes a couple of 15' surf rods that you could probably find at an Academy or something like that.

How far out are we talking here?  I'm interested in knowing why you have to cast out that far, especially for catfish.

I have a large Penn reel on a 7 foot heavy rod and it casts further than my 9 foot Ugly ugly stick.  That's with a 3 oz weight and no bait. I don't think I could even keep bait on with the amount of whip action it takes to cast out really far.

If you're SERIOUS about long casting, I've got a couple of recommendations for you, and I'm talking knocking down casts in the 100-200 yard range.

These are what I fish with:

Rig #1 is a 9' Tica Medium Heavy Casting rod with a Daiwa Luna 300 bait casting reel.  With a 4 oz sinker and a small cut bait, I can knock down 100-120 yards with this setup, and I have caught everything from small Pompano (1-2 lbs) to 40 lb Redfish with it.

Rig #2 is an 11'6" Tica Heavy Action Casting Rod with a Daiwa Sealine X 30SHA casting reel.  With a 4 oz. Sinker and a live mullet or similar bait, I can knock down 120-140 yards with this setup.  I've caught everything from reds, mackerel and other fish of that type to landing 3-5' sharks with it.

My REALLY long distance setup is a Breakaway USA HDX rod that is 13' long, and it has a Daiwa Sealine X 30SHA reel on it.  With a 5 oz. tournament sinker, I can cast in the 200-220 yard range with this rig.

There are also specific techniques to long distance casting, that will help you maximize your distance...and also know that the LONGER the rod is the more difficult it is to fight the fish as the fish will have more leverage over you.

Check out Breakway USA Long Casting Equipment

Nick Meyers is the owner, and a hell of a nice guy.

I am thinking about a 12 ft pole with my 9ft pole I am just to short of where I need to be right now I have to wade out about 50 yards to get close to where I need to be which is about 250 yards from the shore
