I've been pricing them and noticed that manufacturers differentiate between salt and fresh water..

I want one more for the depth sounder as I'll be travelling rivers as much as the ocean..

What is the difference?

Maybe there's more corrosion resistance on the saltwater models?

This and dual frequecy transducers, usualy stonger output for deeper water as well.

Saltwater - you want at least 4000 watts of power and a dual frequency transducer... The dual frequency allows you to do things like better track your down riggers etc...  Salt water also has a different density and the dual frequency td helps you see further (paint a better picture on your screen).

Hard to beat a Lowrance product.  May not have every bell and whistle, but they work and work well.... - and about 90% of the bass pros I fish with use Lowrance - and very few are paid to use them or get them free.    (just be sure to update firmware and stuff online - updates come out all the time)

Thanks for the info. I'm going to use it primarily for knowing how much water I have under my keel!
