Thanks for writing this. I’ve been a fan of sharkman6 since I first found A Flip of the Coin. That story was shocking in its realism. I probably still read that one every couple of years. And while it was a dystopian future with several terrible situations, we were left with a sense of hope - that some dedicated people could fix things. However, as time goes on, your stories still have that vibe, but damn if things don’t get harder and harder. Unfortunately, I think they also get more realistic and closer to what we are seeing everyday. I still believe the good guys will win, but it’s going to be a different kind of victory. I’m looking forward to the resolution. And then will we see the final Spartan book? |

I've got two extra installments planned just for Patreon. I hear you on the next Spartan's story. I need to get going on that, but it would be big and would take a lot. I've got a few different stories planned out and started to some degree. I'd like to write something more mainstream. I think once I am done with Uncle Evans, I'll post a few different story starts and let you the readers pick my next story. The next installment of Uncle Evans is up on Patreon. | Hate to play the critic, but that ending is/was totally predictable and entirely unsatisfying. Now if there was another ten chapters or even a second novel about how Kyle and Evans' friends are the tip of the spear-of-change then that would be something. Because everyone wants to be the hero and win, not just settle for minor revenge. Readers want to identify as Kyle-the-hero. At least if you want to sell books. |

I'd stumbled onto this months ago and had forgotten about it (sorry to say!). Returning to it today, I blasted through it in just few hours and enjoyed every minute! *I don't care about the "unsatisfying ending". It was a great ride. I may even pony up the cash for the "missing" chapters! Great job! |

In all seriousness though, I've done similar enough things by weighting the line. If you don't have "weights" to add to the line, you can make the line heavy enough with the proper knots. |

I hope everybody here is having a great start to the New Year. I was asked several times if the Uncle Evans character was based on somebody I know. He is not based on anybody specifically, but every character is based on various people I've met over the years. In some cases, multiple interactions with multiple people inspire one character in a story. I'm sure we have all had interactions with people similar to characters in the story: Lori: the overbearing neighbor who can't control her dog. Teddy and Greg: the ambitious corporate climbers who don't care who they hurt to advance their careers. Dale: the guy who 'prepares' by buying a bunch of stuff he doesn't really know how to use, and generally has not put much thought or effort into it. Unfortunately, we have two real-life Uncle Evans types. Neither went to the lengths of our fictional character, but both are veterans who served their country honorably and both are suffering under a legal system for, in my humble opinion, political reasons. The first is Sergeant Daniel Perry, US Army. Sgt. Perry was moonlighting as an Uber driver in Austin Texas to make ends meet. On 25 July, 2020, while driving for Uber, Sgt Perry was confronted by an armed mob blocking traffic and stopping cars. One of the members of that mob was openly carrying an AK-47. The mob attacked Daniel Perry and tried to remove him from his vehicle. As the attack unfolded, Daniel Perry defended himself with a handgun and shot Garrett Foster, the man with the AK-47. Garrett Foster's social media history showed strong support for ANTIFA and support for violence against those who did not support his chosen causes. Foster's social media history was deemed inadmissible. Rather than relitigate the case here, I'll summarize. The Travis County Texas jury found Sgt Perry guilty. This was despite some questionable actions by the prosecutor and against the advice of the lead investigator. Perry is now in jail. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he would pardon Sgt Perry. Unfortunately, because previous Texas Governors played fast and loose with their pardon powers, Gov. Abbott can't pardon Sgt. Perry until his case makes it through an administrative process. As 2024 is an election year, I do not think Governor Abbott or any other elected leaders will push for Sgt. Perry. Sergeant Perry's legal defense fund can be found here: Sgt. Perry Legal Defense Fund The second is Daniel Penny, United State Marine, of New York. Daniel Penny was riding the New York Subway, when another passenger started threatening the passengers. That passenger, Jordan Neely, had a history of violent and anti-social behavior. Witnesses on the subway said Jordan threatened, “I don’t mind going to jail and getting life in prison. I’m ready to die.” Jordan Neely was black. Daniel Penny is not. As the confrontation unfolded, Daniel Penny put Jordan Neely in a chokehold. Jordan died. Daniel Perry has been charged with felony manslaughter. If Jordan had seriously injured one of the passengers that day, I'm not sure he would have been charged or held in jail. History suggests that he would have been released. Daniel Perry had to post bond to avoid jail. His case is currently moving through the system. My sense is they are on the "wrong" side of a politically charged incident and they be given fair consideration by the system they supported and defended. If you have the ability, I'd ask that you send a buck or two their way. I'm sure they will need it. |

At least if you want to sell books. @aa777888-2 I get what you are saying, I do. But... right now this story is pushing 110,000 words. So, we are already at novel length. IF Kyle and Evans old war buddies joined up, that would have to be its own novel. I couldn't write that in ten chapters. That would be enough for its stand alone work. I also am well aware I "strung along" all you readers for over a year. It was time to end it. This was also all about Evans and the sacrifice he was willing to make for his nephew and the world his nephew would have to live in. This story had to build up and end that way, IMHO. The last installments/denouement are up on Patreon. For anybody who was not satisfied with the ending posted here, you might find the ending there a little more positive. |
