I am currently deployed in Afghanistan, and my wife is wanting to acquire good books for TEOTWAWKI.  Specifically good books on how to do things the old way, farming, cooking, canning.  Also some survival books as well.  I look forward tot he communities input.

Alas, Babylon. Nuclear exchange. Contains all of the above. Happens in late '50s, early '60s.
caller: "Operator, I want to be connected to Atlanta."
(operator sees a bright flash in the distance) "Sir... I'm sorry, but Atlanta isn't there anymore..."

Farnham's Freehold.

Malevil. French countryside is rocked by nuclear blast. Central characters are fortunate to live in a medieval castle.

These are very old books but they are fairly accurate and comprehensive, especially "Alas, Babylon."

Another nonfiction to read: Life After Doomsday. Very easy to read. Offers hope through preparation.

I think you missed he last part of my post.  I am not looking for fictional books, although I thank you for posting.  I am trying to get books for actual survival.  Like "how to" books.  So when all the crap goes down, I will have books to fall back on.  Not looking for electronic files but actual hardcopies.

I have that "Life after Doomsday" and it is non-fiction.  It has a lot of good info about surviving a nuclear exchange.  How to build permanent shelters and expedient shelters, etc.  The Foxfire books are a treasure trove of information of how things were done in the past.  Like making moonshine (wink, wink), curing meat, and things that your Great Great Great Grandparents were able to do.

Maybe you could get some ideas from the PDF thread about what books you'd like to invest in for hard copies

I've whipped up a quick list on Amazon that might help as a starting point.

These books, especially Alas Babylon, do exactly that, in a fictional format; that's why I suggest them.
