I have been reading it and I think it would be a good set of books to give to the kids to prepare them for a survival mindset.

It takes place in a future, dictatorial America, where districts are ruled by a powerful capital in the Rockies. The subjects live in poverty and the lead character is a girl who becomes a poacher to keep her family fed.

The skills she learns help her survive when she becomes a contestant in a Survivor/Battle Royale TV show. While there she helps to inspire the outlying districts to rebel against their overlords.

So the book celebrates disrespect for authority and being able to take care of yourself.

The books are great. The chick they cast for the movie is pretty ARFALICIOUS too.

I hadn't heard of this until I saw the Entertainment Weekly with her on the cover.

I read one of the books while sitting in Afghanistan. I really liked it. Hopefully the movie doesn't suck balls.

Woody Harrelson should be a great Haymitch! Hope they don't screw it up turning it into a movie!

Donald Sutherland should make a great President Snow also.

This.
I really liked the books.  We homeschool so I read them with my boys.  They hated them.
"That's a girl book!"   "That's completely unrealistic"   "BORING"  says 14 and 12.
Yet... everyone I've talked to that's read them loves them.   Huh... I think my kids are outvoted!

My 13 year old daughter LOVED the trilogy.

I read the first and liked it a lot.Plus 1000 on the mindset.

Saw the actress in "Winter's Bone" and she did very well.
