I was talking to my Mom earlier and she started telling me about a book she was discussing with her friends called Last Light. Based on..... you guessed it an EMP strike and the results. I was kinda shocked that my mother who is pushing 70 and her friends who are all retired were actually dscussing the possible outcome of an EMP attack and how they would cope with it. Granted I doubt anythng will change for most of them, Mom included, but it's still encouraging. These books may be a good way to get the females in your lives a bit more interested in prepping.
On a side note am I the only one that thinks Halfast is getting royally screwwed not proffiting off the EMP novel concept? One second after is a pretty popular book and apparently the Last Light series is pretty popular, at least wth geriatrics. |

In the book, it is due to a supernova, or the like, but the result is still the same. Over the course of the series, the cycling of the phenomenon keeps most technology down. In the last book some technology is coming back. My wife and I read all three books.
It is more a story of faith with preparedness thrown in as well. I really liked them. If you have a wife that reads and is somewhat reluctant to be a prepper then this book is one that might get them interested. My wife has never been against prepping but this really put some things in focus and helped her think about what could happen. jd1 |

No but I think it was the push for a lot of newer books on the subject. And in my opinion LO is 10 times a better book than One Second After. |

No but I think it was the push for a lot of newer books on the subject. And in my opinion LO is 10 times a better book than One Second After. Really? I liked both, and have read them twice, but I'm curious what you think was tens times better about Lights Out. |
| And WOW, was this story not ten times better than anything. Gotta remember to hit the safety on that revolver before you shoot someone, and that people who read filthy porno also tend to murder families and children, but then don't rape teenage girls when drunk, and....fuggitaboutit. |
| I just finished the series. Like the OP, I was turned on to these books by my parents, also in their 70's. I thought it was pretty good. Yes, a few facepalm moments that make you wonder if the author had any sort of "technical advisor" but it was easy enough for me to get past that (if Patriots is your thing though, this might not do it for you). As someone else mentions, it is more a faith based view of how you would deal with a world class disaster, which is notably absent in a lot of other novels in this genre. |
|
My wife actually started reading the series first, then I read it and found it a good read, sparing the few technical blunders. After reading that she read One Second After, and My copy of Deep winter, wanted Shatter, but I have about 100 pages to go, so she started in on my copy of Lights Out that I won on a different forum.
She has always been on board with prepping, but each time she reads one of these books, she comes up with other stuff she thinks we should have, which is great. Lot easier preppin when you do not have to convince the other half that a certain amount of a certain item is needed. If reading these books keeps here motivated to prep...bring em on |

I know its an older post, but I found this book a couple of months ago, liked it, the wife read it= liked it, and she went and found the 2nd 1 and picked it up. She has also found us the newest 1 )I think...its the 4th. however we have not read it
