Hello all,
I've been looking for a book that I had read when I was in elementary school back in the late 70's. I don't know the title. What I remember was that it was a story about a brother, sister and friend that had to survive on a Island that had wild boars on it. I think it was either a shipwreck or a plane crash. They built black powder muskets to deal with the boars. I can't find any reference to this book anywhere. This story was the beginning of my preparedness trek and I would love to read it again. Agator P.S. The book American Apocalypse by Nova is really well done. |

not the same book but a similar story i get the feeling is the book "the island of the blue dolphins". i too read this in elementary school and was one of my first outside influences towards dealing SHTF and preparedness...
several other books that i read in school which were good SHTF and or preparedness books include(in no particular order): "the yearling" "hatchet" "the river(sequel to hatchet, but not as good)" "robinson crusoe" "the swiss family robinson" "homecoming" that's all that come to mind right off hand though i'm sure there were others... am intersted in the title of the book you're describing as it sounds interesting, and sorry i couldn;t be of more help... i occationally will even go back and read one of the above(more children's aged books) as they do all have some good survival content and make for a real quick easy read between more adult level novels(skill and content etc.)... they're great for the kids though, gonna try to get my 10y/o neice into some of these if she feels they're not to childish for her reading level. she can be a little proud of the fact that she reads at a highschool level of comprehension. daughter of a college professor and all, i just hope she doesn't miss out on good books because she feels they are "beneath her"... ETA: WTF MAN? your join date is '06, and you're just now getting around to making a post?.. you sir win the post prude of the decade award!.. K. |
