Well, my brother and I drew our first bull tags ever (I did kill a bull a few years ago on a limited opportunity any elk tag, but I have never had a bonafide bull tag) Anyway, we drew tags in 6B (Flagstaff area). On opening day in the afternoon, my brother spotted a few elk on a hillside a few hundred yards out including a few bulls. Since his 7 year daughter was with him, I got to chase the elk. I circled around the hill and dropped down on top of them. I found this bull bedded down at 65 yards, and let an arrow fly. My shot caught the back of his lung and liver. He went about a 100 yards and my hunt was
over. The unit is not what you would call a trophy area, so I was hoping for any mature bull, but this guy far exceeds what I was hoping for. A buddy scored him at 356 net :-) Here he is:

| Yeah, I would say he is mature. Bow season just ended here and I got about 10 days in hunting. I should have taken the cow on day two but held out for a bull and you know that story. We came in behind a hunter on day three by about 15 minutes who had walked up on a 6x6 who was bedded down. That bull never heard him and was dead meat. I can't believe I have to wait another year to bow hunt. UGH |
