Looking into getting a Badlands pack, either the 2200 or the 2800. I've mainly used Camelbaks, the Motherlode being just about the ideal size. Any negitives to them ?  What say you ?

To me they seem to be over-priced. I have hunted with a redhead (Bass Pro Shop) brand pack for 3 or 4 years until a zipper broke last year. I still used the pack this year, but recently bought a Blackhawk brand pack I found on sale. I am happy with it so far, and it seem to be very well made.

Thanks guys, I headed up to an outdoor emporium today. Was able to check out all of the Badlands packs as well as some others that had peaked my interest i.e. - Blacks Creek Canadian & Bone Collector series as well as Eberlestock's "the one" & the  Blue Widow. After it was all said & done the 2200 from Badlands came out on top for what I considered was needed for my style of hunting out west. Second would have been one of the Eberlestocks, I like the expandable game bag thing they have but it seems to be at the expence of everything else in the main pack area.

Ordered on up online, got a free bladder, S-biner, rangefinder case & shipping : $199.99     Ya kinda spindy, but w/ their warranty you only buy it once .

Good choice!  I have a badlands super day and a eber r1 or something like that.  Used the eber one year now it sits in the closet.  The badlands profile seems more slimlined to me, and is more comfortable to me.  Pricey, but great packs.

They are very innovative packs. They really listen to their customers as can been seen in all the modifications they make every year or less to each pack, changing the things customers don't like and adding things they want.

That being said I've gone through a bunch of packs over the years trying to find the perfect hunting pack for me. It seems that over the last 7 years I've used a pack through hunting season, decided I didn't like it, sold it and bought a new one. I think this year I've finally settled on an Eberlstock X2.
I'm lucky though because I have a friend that makes nylon gear so I had him add some things to the pack for me.

Here are some stock pics

I got an X2 out of the first shipment to hit the market.  That was in 2008.  It has seen 2 years lion hunting, 2 deer seasons (about 5 hunts), and 1 elk hunt.  I have had that pack loaded with about 60 lbs of loose meat, packing it out to the truck, and it normally weights about 35 lbs while I am lion hunting with all of my gear.  I have yet to find a problem with that pack.

Those packs, as well as the Badlands, and other GOOD quality packs are worth their weight in gold.  If you do a LOT of hunting, and carry a lot of gear, spend the money on a good pack.  Your back will thank you in the end.  Also, your wallet will thank you in the end also, because you only have to buy that pack once, rather than surfing through crap every year.

Later,

Marcial
