I need to get me a left handed bolt action 30.06. Been wanting one for a while now and I can finally swing it financially, just need to decide on which a brand: Remington, Stevens, and Savage are on my radar.

The Rem 700 is a classic, but what do I get over a Stevens? Is the 700 worth the extra money?

yep, esp at 'trade time' down the road
REM then Sav then Stevens

Remington.

My personal preference for bolt action rifles is:

Winchester Model 70
Remington 700
Savage 110/10
Ruger 77
Everything else

Having said that the Savage Model 16 I own shoots just as well as my Remington PSS at half the price.  Make your own decision.

I really like my Marlin XL7 for $300, I don't think there is a left hand version though.  FWIW I am left handed and have learned to overcome and adapt to the right handed bolt.

my father and brother both have ruger 77s and both performed very well over the past 25 years. not really a fan of the  savage quality.

If you are going to have ONE hunting bolt gun, spend a few extra $$ and get the rem CDL.

There isn't anything wrong with the Savage or Ruger, but the 700 is sure nice.

And before any fanboys get upset,I have eamples of all three brands sitting in the safe, and I like them all!

Of the brands listed

Remington.

I have an old M700 ADL Synthetic in 270 Winchester.

Accurate and light weight.  I added a Decelerator to it and the recoil is virtually non-existent.

One of these in 30-06 would be the only rifle you would ever need.

Savage Arms w/ accu-trigger! I would definitely choose this over the remington.

I have a Custom Left hand Rem 700 in 30.06 and I clover leaf shot @ 200 yards. I have a left hand Savage as well in .243 I like both Rifles. Love the trigger on the Remington. Accutrigger takes a little shooting to get used too, but is smooth and gets me backstraps. Can't go wrong with either.

i have left handed savage 110 in 30-06.  it does me just fine.  more accurate than i am.  dinged, scratched, generally ugly and less expensive than the 700.  i'm more than satisfied.  my only regret was the caliber, should have gone with .308 for the shorter action.

I've owned Remington, Ruger and Savage all in 30-06. Dollar for dollar and pound for pound the Savage shoots the best groups.

I too shoot a left handed bolt gun.  Of those you listed, I would go with the Remington or Savage.  Get the Rem. 700 CDL if you go Remington though.

Now with that said, I am currently shooting a LH Tikka T3 in .30-06 and absolutely love it!
