After weeks of 70s-90s, we had a hard freeze last night. I covered the tomatoes & peppers, but it looks like I have a 75% mortality rate. I'm going to give them a few days to shake it off before going to the compost pile, but things don't look good at the moment ![]() |

I covered mine, but, they are calling for low 30s again tonight. I left the covers on mine. Large plastic buckets, covered over that with a white trash bag, scoop of dirt on top. Some of my tomatoes were really beginning to grow. 12" tall in some cases. Peppers... same. A month of growth on them. I won't know until tomorrow how they fared. I had to go to work this morning and the temps were still below freezing here before 8 am. 28 degrees at 7 am. TRG |

It's in the 60's here today and the plants are looking worse as the day goes on. I do believe they are going to be a lost cause.

| I am east of okc and it was 28 here this morning. the only thing I have planted was potatoes, peas, and onions. I put a couple of tomatoes in a month ago and kept them under buckets. they didn't make it. I knew it was a gamble. some people play the lotto, I garden in oklahoma |

It looks like my losses might have been ... zero.
Pulled the covers off today and it looks like everything made it. FWIW, I covered them in large plastice flower pots before the sun went down. We did not catch much sun, but, maybe it helped warm them a few degrees extra. I then covered the plastic pots with trash bags to eliminate air flow through the drain holes. Scoop of dirt on top to hold it in place. I'll know more later today if they begin to die in the sun, but... looked perky and GTG this morning. TRG |

Fortunately down here, West of Houston, it didn't get below freezing. Think we were in the high 30's. We had some high winds and a few leaves got broken though. Also, the high fluctuations in temps looks to have stressed some plants so I have some leaf discoloration but that should work itself out.
Man, I never knew gardening was so much damn work!

I won't be getting peppers into the ground for at least another month. We had a hard frost + 1 1/2 inches of snow two nights ago. The only thing up are my tulips and garlic. We've had frost the last two nights. I had planned to plant some tomatoes, peppers and cabbage this weekend but gonna put it off for at least another week and see what this global warming does. |
