I've got a 30 something year old Coleman "Powerhouse" stove in good condition. Can I use the ethanol/lead free "white gas" I run in my lawn care stuff with it? It's mid grade 89 octane.

You can get away with it, but unleaded gas will eventually clog the generator.
Use real Coleman fuel...it keeps forever and the stove will run forever.
Gasoline stoves burn a hell of a lot hotter than propane.

The Coleman lantern I take camping is from the mid 1930's and my stove is pushing 50 years old by now...
Bought them at a yard sale for a few bucks and just used them...never had to rebuild them.

I usually go through two gallons of fuel a year camping and doing canning....figure it runs me $20 for the fuel...so I'm not out that much (I remember when Coleman fuel was $1/gallon).

Yeah, it's amazing that Coleman fuel doesn't go bad.  I used mine a week ago to cook some collard greens outside - my wife said no way could they be cooked inside the house

I may have to try it. Can't find a gallon anywhere. Bass pro, Dick's, Gander, WM or Sports Authority. The half Gal. can I have is from '95 and smells like paint thinner.

Smells like paint thinner? Sounds ok to me...

You can't find it at Walmart or Bass Pro? My WM carries it: have you asked any of those places if they can get it in?

Some WMs have the generic Coleman fuel and it'll work ok.  I've used unleaded in mine for years and really have had no problems, but to be fair, I don't use my stoves or lanterns daily like some folks.  Maybe see if there's a gas station near you that sells Ethanol-Free gas and use that.  You can find a station that sells Ethanol-Free gas here:

ETA:  My Dad has used unleaded in his stoves and lanterns for years and years, prolly 3-4 decades and had no problems.
