9 of the 12 bags I sealed six months ago have lost their vacuum. Dried beans so I really don't care and it's only 12 bags (4 cups each).
But, I was hoping to seal vast quantities of food with this thing... Any thoughts? |
| I don't know on that particular unit, perhaps a seal timer adjustment? Contamination in the bag in the seal area? With my Foodsaver I have taken to double sealing the bags about 1/2" apart and that seems to eliminate failures. Presumably the second sealing since done a few seconds after the first is a bit hotter as well as the redundancy. |

I'll try double sealing. The bags seemed to keep a good tight seal for say 3 or 4 months... then gave it up. I am using the the clear bags that come with the unit. I posted here back when I ordered the channel bags (foodsaver) from Sorbent. They're issue was that the sealer never pulled a strong enough vacuum with those bags. I think they were too heavy.

Just plain tired of resealing items. Very disappointed in this product. Their bags are too thin I think and was advised the vac they sell won't work on thicker bags. |
You have several other options. One, get thicker mylar bags, at least 5 mil. Then close with oxygen absorbers and clothes iron set to wool [I believe]. Harbor Freight has the breaking vacuum kit on sale. The brass one not a plastic one. The plastic won't hold up according to a video I saw on the net a good while back. You can buy the vacuum tool from Vacuum Seal that is used to vacuum seal Mason jars and seal food in jars with oxygen absorbers in the jars and break vacuum tool. Some people just use the oxygen absorbers in the jar to create the vacuum and remove oxygen. Good luck!

I have the CG15 vacuum sealer seen here
Been using it for 2 years, hundreds of seals with 0 failures and haven't had to replace a gasket yet. |
