I usually date any food we freeze, cooked or raw.  I found a foil wrapped, then ziploc'd bag that had a whole chicken I bbq'd.  Meat still on bone.

I thought I heard years ago to remove all meat from chicken bone before freezing but that doesn't sound right - why would you remove meat from a drumstrick?   True or false?

Second, since I can't date the chicen, I know its less than 2 years old, just go by looks and smell?  And if it smells good, and I reheat the whole chicken in the oven, wouldn't it kill any bad stuff?

As far as I know, from USDA references, anything that has been kept frozen at or below 0F should remain safe to eat indefinitely. The subjective quality and some nutrients may decline over extended frozen storage however.
