| I know last year I would let the peppers get about 4" or so, or when the skins started cracking before I would pick them. I just pulled off my first batch of japs today, and they are alot smaller, about 2 1/2-3" and the skins are already cracking so I cut them off. My question is, would the heat, and the dry spell we had make them do that?? I know we have gotten about a inch or so of rain in the past week, so they have finally gotten some much needed water.... I guess maybe the dry weather stunted them maybe?? |

IDK. I should probably pick some of mine before the skins get to hard. To be honest, I don't know when the proper time is to harvest those things. The longer they sit on the plant, the tougher they become. That's all I know about them. ![]() Yeah, I have noticed that. I had been putting off picking them till they got some size, but once the first signs of the skins cracking, I know they ain't getting any bigger. I have the same issues with my sweet banana peppers, some of the damn things will be 5-6" long, before they get more yellow than green, and some will be 3" and be yellow. I just wait till they look yellow enough and pull them off, no matter the size. |

Mine are about the same size when I'm having to pick them. I thought it seemed a little small but have never grown them before. They still taste good impregnated with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon. That's what I did with them last year, pretty damn good. I'm hoping here soon, I'll start getting enough at once to cut up into rings and can pickle a few pints.... |
