Due to the inclimate weather this year, early spring, late frost we were able to get 3 gallon hefty bags of strawberries from our patch. These were well earned too because it took an awful lot to make 3 gallons, they turned out small, most nickel size and some quarter size.

Strawberries de-thawing in the turkey roaster pan (biggest we have), they looked good!

Completed, 26 pints total (doubling the half pints).

We had 2 times this last year and luckily we still have some of that on hand. This will be enough to last till next season.

I think we would have been better off buying the strawberries at Walmart or Krogers this year considering how much time I put into picking these. Blackberry patch looks spotty too, some of the vines are loaded and they're dying. Lost the two apple trees harvest to Jack also.

One of the many things I won't plant because of the PITA factor.   Mainly weeds.

Waldo, I don't weed my patch. I have it in sort of a raised bed and it's easy to take care of. The vines/shoots choke out most weeds. Few wild onions this year and a few clumps of sour grass removed this week and that's been it. Raised bed helps with this.

I have my small patch in a raised bed by my front porch.  Damn things over took the bed, and are now growing under the step to said porch  I don't get no where near the berries you do OP, but I got a few handfuls this year.  Fucking birds took the rest.  Gonna get some mesh screen or something for next year.

Cat birds and robins were making short work of mine till we put on the netting. You should have been here to watch the cat bird try to get through/under the netting, he was pissed.

Yeah, just as soon as those fuckers start to turn a bit red, boom they pick the sides right out of them

The birds and ants killed my harvest, but the chickens liked the left overs. Next year I will add DE and netting to keep things in check, OP that looks like a good haul. Cant wait to be able to do something similar.

Strawberries are a pain.  Mine were killed by slugs and birds.  So many things like it that we just do pick-your-own.  However, there are none close by so my wife went to a farm where you can buy already picked ones.  I have 3 of those hanging baskets but it's just enough to add to yoghurt.

Wow nice amount of Jelly , and You say its an off year .  Wish that I could get kind of a harvest.  We just put in 2 rows of Strawberrys this Spring , getting enuf Berrys for my cereal every couple of days. Maybee next year We'll get enuf for Jelly. We tried a new  Strawberry this year from Millers called "Mara Des Bois"  not much bigger around than a shooter marble but the flavor is out of this world !  Even better than the wild strawberrys I used to pick as a Kid.

We have a 4 x 4 raised bed of strawberries for three years.  It is virtually maintenance free.  We picked a quart or so every day for weeks.  I have no preserves to show for it, but I had some happy kids.
