Hi All,

Want to get started on food prepping and had a question about dried goods.  I am planning on vacuuming small bags of rice and beans (separately) and was planning on buying some this week at Costco.  I haven't purchased a sealer or bags yet, but hope to have the money in the next month.  How long can I keep the rice and beans prior to sealing them?

Also, I was looking at the Snorkelvac from Sorbent for about $100... http://sorbentsystems.com/sinbosealer.html

Anything else I need to know for start up?

Thanks,

-Coop

Rice and beans have a looooong shelf life just on their own.
So buying now and packing next month is not a problem.
Last time I bought a 50lb bag of rice, the use by date was 2yrs out.

I would not waste time and effor vaccuum sealing rice, beans or any other LTS foods.
As mentioned above, best thing to do is pack in Mylar w/O2 absorbers. It is an easy task.
How To - Storing Food in Buckets and #10 Cans is a good resource.

Don't vacuum seal rice.  the grains will puncture the bag and lose the vacuum in a few days.

Mylar and O2 absorbers.
