This is the second year in a row that I've got little bitty beets with giant leaves. This is down right diconcerting. They're planted in 12" deep raised beds with a combination of 1/3 chicken leaf mulch, 1/3 Garden Soil and 1/3 soil from the garden shaken not stirred. They're planted in 3 rows 9" apart and thinned to 4-5" between beets. They raised boxes are 3'x10' and get about 6-7 hours of full sun a day. I fertilized the beets in one of the boxes with Ozmocote, the other did not get fertilizer. Beets in both boxes are the same.

Only way to know for sure is to do a soil test.........Too much nitrogen and low potassium come to my mind as  a cause.

Will check soil, Maybe the Miracle Grow Garden soil has too much stuff in it. Seeded the beds March 10. Probably a combo of too much N and not enough sun.
