I have no experience with the Mountain House Products.
I know it all boils down to personal preference in regards to food but figured I'd ask here anyways.

My plan is to order individual packets so that me and my family can try the different entrees.

What are some of your favorite entrees?

Are the desserts any good?

Any advice/pointers when preparing these meals?

Many thanks

Most of them are pretty good.  My favorite is the Beef Stroganoff followed closely by the way more expensive beef stew.

I really like them best with crackers and a side like peas or corn.

My best advice to anyone on using these is learn how to prepare instant mashed potatoes and powdered eggs then use the same principles in reconstitution of these foods.  In fact the eggs and bacon downright suck if you follow the directions.  I pretend its powdered eggs and go from there and its much much better.

Things like frequent stirring and spicing to taste make a world of difference.

They are tolerable. My favorite is the blueberry granola, it is delicious and I will even eat it for lunch when I am out and about. The chili-mac is also not bad, better with some hot sauce added.

Don't forget to keep water on hand for your meals.

If you get tired of the cost and taste, google "freezer bag cooking" and you will find an alternative that is cheaper, healthier, and tastier.

Also keep in mind that you can extend MH cans to feed more people or for a longer period. That also helps you to lower the sodium intake from MH as it is high on it's own.
So for instance, if you had a can of beef stroganoff, you would add extra pasta maybe a can of peas. Same with chili mac, lasagna, spaghetti, etc. For any of the rice dishes you would mix in some cooked rice and so on. Many ways to do this so use whatever method works for you and your family.

As others said most taste good. I plan on using them with rice, beans,  as fillers.

the scrambled eggs and bacon was really not that bad. i had heard they sucked, but i liked it. would be great if thats all i had.

just start buying up the pouches; thats probably all you can find now since the .gov bought up all the #10 cans.
