I have a nice large "air-tight" Pelican case.
I am wanting to store some rice and beans in it. If I was to simply put some white rice or dried red beans into a new Mason Jar or Zip-loc bag and place the bags or jars into the air tight case how long could I expect them to last? (it would be stored inside in a climate controlled room) What if I put some O2 absorbers in the case with the jars? |

Wow - your second post was 5 years in the making?!
If we're talking mason jars and o2 absorbers, I think you should expect 15-20 years. If you have a nice Pelican, I wouldn't use it for food storage. Jars, buckets and mylar bags are readily available. ETA: Ziplocks won't get you very far. |

I usually get old used ones and that is what alot of my gear is stored in. This time however I was able to get a nice large rolling one that is brand new and clean. I thought it would work ok for food storage. |

It will work just fine, it's just overkill.
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=10&f=17&t=642305 I'd use the Pelican elsewhere or sell it and get buckets. It's like using a 500SL for a treehouse just because it's free. |
