Here is a good thread to get you started.

I'm hoping to give it a try myself this year.

Good luck to you.

Here are some pics of our old one, also posted in the thread SIPCAT-C linked to.

It's currently sitting empty as we enlarged our flock and moved them into the barn (with an adjoining outside pen). Not sure what we're gonna do with this coop––possibly adapt it for some turkeys.

This coop worked well for us. Being able to collect eggs from the outside was a plus. With the floor up off the ground we had no problem with burrowing varmints taking up residence underneath. The underneath area also provided a ready made place for the hens to get out of inclement weather. The downside to raising the floor is getting up in the coop is a bit of a PITA.

We have 23 young layers, all Black Stars. Right now we get between 16 and 22 eggs daily.

Thanks for all the info (in both of these threads), Feral.

One question, is the fourth picture down the opening to collect the eggs?  I'm guessing the boxes are up against that thin board door?

Yep, the 3rd and 4th pics show the egg collection flaps. Drop the flaps and you can reach right into the backside of the nest box and get the eggs. I left the nest boxes bottomless. To clean them, you raise the bigger door, prop it open and just slide the nest boxes out and the shavings fall into whatever receptacle you put right below.

I don't use bedding in my nest boxes anymore though. I use these plastic nest pads which work much nicer. I'm also using a pre-fab Kuhl nest box which is raised up off the floor. That's one thing I'd definitely change about the design of the coop in the pics. I much prefer having the nest box up off the floor as that keeps the birds from bringing much, if any, bedding into the nests––in combo with those nest pads, that leads to cleaner eggs.

I don't have any pictures of the inside.  A guy who builds sheds put this together for me.  I then built a roost inside with plastic concrete pins that slide in underneath to catch the crap.  Makes it easy to get it to the compost pile and keeps the coop really clean.  I'm redoing the run in the spring as well using 2x2 instead of these posts.  Had a big fight with my back neighbor about the chickens so I want to put an osb back on the run to minimize noise and smell transfer.
