I want to stock pile some seeds. What is the best way? How long will they stay viable? I'm assuming you could vacuum seal them and then date and rotate.

Dark, dry and cool.
Viability depends on the plant.
Roughly 2-10 years with germination rates dropping with time.

I have successfully germinated ten year old vegetable seed that was stored in less than ideal conditions.
But I wouldn't bet my life on it.

Howdy, MatthewD!

The first item you're going to need are stocks of NON-HYBRID heirloom seeds; I recommend these people. Their address can be seen in the photo below:

If you haven't looked into it already, a modicum of online research will show why heirloom seeds, proven to produce for decades, are a vital Step No.1 in generating your own seed stocks.

Additionally, this website is a good start on the basics of how to harvest and prepare seeds for storage and future planting; move your cursor over "seeds" located on dark gtreen site index strip.

Thanks for the help.Just getting starting, besiides firearms and ammunition.  I just read Patriots recently. I know some people do not like the book allot, but I did find it entertaining and helpful. It has made me realize I could only survive 't for about two weeks without further preparation if I can't get food or supplies from the Publix down the road. I have a small place, but there is still allot I can do.
