| Is it necessary to debug rice before long term storage? I have heard of freezing the Mylar bags after they have been packed for a couple days, is this needed? If so, are there other methods I should be aware of? |

Hi Guys,
I just pulled a 25lb bag of rice that I had put in the freezer for a few days. I bagged a 1 gal Mylar bag and vacuumed out the air and sealed it with an 500cc O2 absorber. Condensation formed on the outside of the Mylar bag because the rice was still cold. Should I have let it warm up before I bagged it or no big deal? It might be a stupid question but better safe than sorry. Thank you. |

Wondering myself!

I use the freezing method, but some use DE. I thought that the lack of O2 (from an O2 absorber) pretty much prevented anything from living (long) in there... Some quick Wikified links on Anaerobic Bacteria Clostridium and Obligate Anaerobes and the main Anaerobic Organism page. Botulism is an Anaerobe everyone should be familiar with. TM |
