This is my first stab at a garden so I do not know what to expect.  I have a bunch of productive cucumber plants, but the cuc’s themselves are bright yellow and some what oddly shaped.  They are a pickling variety if it matters.  I have got a couple of good green ones, but it is not the norm.  Is that normal and I need to wait, or have I waited to long to harvest?  Is it a pollination issue like I read somewhere else?

Thanks

What strain did you plant?
Do they look like the picture on the seed packet?

They might be "lemon" cucumbers or they might just not be ripe yet.
Eat one and see if they're ripe.

My pickling cucumbers only turn yellow right before they begin to rot.

this how long are you letting them stay on the vine?

We had dozens of then most all about the size of a lemon, but they made excellent pickles with relatively small amounts of seeds. Whether they were supposed to grow that way or not I don't know but they worked out good.

There are lemon cucs, and there are regular cucs that stay on the vine to long and turn yellow. Don't eat them or your mouth will shrivel up, really bitter.

This is what I am seeing.  I dont think the pure yellow ones were ever green at all.  The picture on the envelope shows green cuc's. Am I waiting to long?  Not long enough?
I just noticed a couple that are almost perfect spheres.
I have harvested, off the same plant, what I think are typical cucumbers.  Nice shape and color.
The envelope says they should be either Little Delicious or Burpee Pickler.  I dont recall which these are.

You are leaving them on the vine to long, I generally pick my picklers when they are about 5 to 6" long. You will have to look them every day especially if you are having rain.
