A friend just picked up a 50 lbs. bag of rice and needs the best & cheapest way to store it?

I'm asian.  My folks just had a large metal bread box looking thing with a hinged top when I was a kid and dumped the rice in there whenever they bought a new bag and kept it inthe cabinet under the kitchen counter.

That stuff sits in warehouses and shipping containers in those fabric-like weaved bags so they probably don't need too much special requirements.

Get one of those plastic rubbermaid bins.  One with a top that locks or clicks in place when closed and store it in a dry area.  Water/condenstaion is it's enemy.  just keep it off the ground and dry in the bag for long term storage.  If you open the bag, dump it into the plastic bin, but make sure that there aren't any holes where any bugs might find a way in.

I freeze my bags for a few days. I then, after freezing bring it out let it adjust, and vac seal it in gallon or quart bags.

Rinse out some two liter pop bottles. Make sure that they are DRY and fill them with Rice. Take a wooden dowel and gently push the top of the rice down, and compress until you cannot get any more in the bottle. Put the cap back on and store in a dry and cool area.
