What vacuum food sealer do you guys use?  I'm a single guy, most food would likely be packaged in pint, quart and maybe gallon sized bags.  Basically need something adequate to package chicken breasts, steaks, chops and the like for freezing.  Don't want the cheapest unit, don't want the best, just something dependable and durable.

Also do you use the rolls of packaging material or the preformed bags?

.

I use a foodsaver v2830.  The rolls work quite well, and you just use as much of the roll as you need for a particular application.

FoodSaver, and we usually use the roll, but have also used pre-made bags. When this FoodSaver dies, we're definitely getting a new one.

HR, I know you're not new to ARFCOM, but I'm not used to seeing you post in survival forum. Have I been missing your posts or did you have an epiphany (sp) ?

Lurking, just started posting here.  Been reading it for awhile and something clicked in my head a month or so ago and I kicked the purchases into high gear.

Vacuum sealing ammo is a waste of time, energy and materials unless you are just doing a couple for placing in a pack. A US military ammo can with some desicant will do a better job at keeping your bulk ammo and they stack and transport better too. Use your bags for food or for making backpack kits of other items that you want to keep dry.

+1 to that.. I have the kit from costco.. nice unit, came with a higher end unit, 3 jars, and 2 rolls of material.  with those 2 rolls I was able to pack up 75lbs of dry goods..

.. also of note: costco has the foodsaver rolls pack for $39.95.. it has 4 wide rolls and 2 narrow rolls.. I havent been able to find a better deal on FS rolls anywhere..

My experience may be atypical, but I'll throw it out there anyway.

I had flawless service from two low-end FoodSavers. They ran and ran until finally just getting tired.

I replaced the last one with a Professional III Plus.....pretty much FoodSaver's top of the line product.

I got the first one last Fall. It was DOA. Sent it back to the factory in early Nov. and received the replacement unit at the end of January. I've not used the replacement a huge amount.....and last night it stopped pulling vacuum while I was packaging some meat.

I am not a happy camper here and am anticipating getting another replacement machine......but waiting several months for it.

Moral of the story? You're better off with a low end FS unit that actually works, than an expensive one that doesn't.

Personally, one of bennies is that you can tell when you opened the package because it has lost is vacuum.  I don't do this because I just seal my ammo in GI ammo cans without any desiccant, being the cheap @$$ that I am.

FoodSaver GameSaver TurboPlus FTW!

I got an inexpensive Seal-a-Meal for a gift and it didn't last through one roll of bags!

I don't plan on doing all my ammo
But after seeing some corosion issues with ammo in the cardboard.
I'm not going to take any chances with the hornady/other high dollar ammo i have saved for a rainy day.......
