Why does the flash from a rifle barrel not blind you when using night vision? That may be a real dumb question but the flame from an sbr is substantial.

Because we use suppressors.
Autogating may help with that along with a good muzzle device like the FSC.

I have had PVS-7's shut down to protect the tube on a 16" AR with a top ported recoil compensated. They wake back up a few seconds later. Switching to a phantom fixed the problem.

Yes, flash hider. Phantom works...also check out the Smith Vortex.
