I just picked up the newly redesigned Olight i3s with neutral while XP-G2 emitter. Single AAA, three modes: .5LM moonlight, 20LM and 80LM, plus a strobe.
$20 shipped. I have a lot of smaller, more powerful lights, but this one puts out a nice beam, has a nice output spread and is probably smaller than your pinky finger. 
They come in neat colors too! Chris |

I have one out in the garage I use to see the fill level in my 2 gallon cans when I am filling them out of my 5 gallon cans or from my drum. I still mix my kerosene so it is very helpful. It worked perfectly at -11°. The rubber switch was stiff. Great lights. |

This is what I was going to recommend. add a krazyglue tube for a diffuser and you are set.

I got my Larry today (quick shipping) and I'm quite pleased with it. It's plenty bright and I think it will be great for night fishing when tying knots and such. I clipped it on a lanyard and you can prop it against your chest so the light is pointed down.
I really hate headlamps so this is a very good alternative for me. Thanks OP. I just ordered two more.
