"The Larry", "the Larry 2" and  "the Lucy".

The Larry

They take up not more space than a ballpoint pen and throw decent light, great for moving around in the dark.,you can clip on to your lapel or slap it up on a metal object . We've gotten a lot of utility out of these guys.

They're very useful.

Amazon is showing $44, though - so shop around.

My dad got me something just like this from Harbor Freight (?) or Big Lots! or similar for about $12

I just picked up the newly redesigned Olight i3s with neutral while XP-G2 emitter.  Single AAA, three modes: .5LM moonlight, 20LM and 80LM, plus a strobe.

$20 shipped.

I have a lot of smaller, more powerful lights, but this one puts out a nice beam, has a nice output spread and is probably smaller than your pinky finger.

They come in neat colors too!

I have 4 of these. Love them!. I did break the pocket clip on one though after quite a bit of use. I just tape it to the shaft so the magnet is still there. A guy i work with, his wife sells them at $10 a pop.

That's for 4 of the lights plus a little credit card light.

Nah, missed that one. I'm not surprised they were posted about before.....they're just too cool not to post.

I have one out in the garage I use to see the fill level in my 2 gallon cans when I am filling them out of my 5 gallon cans or from my drum. I still mix my kerosene so it is very helpful. It worked perfectly at -11°. The rubber switch was stiff. Great lights.

These are great lights. I got one for about $10-12. They have a strong magnet in the pocket clip. Stays where you stick it. I used mine As a reference for backing up a truck.

I just bought one on Friday at an electrical wholesaler. You can clip to the neck of your T shirt for hands free operation.

It was $10.00.

The linked one is a four-pack.

So, they are about $11 or so.  Plus, there's a "credit card light" included in the package.

I have one in my truck, bag, and at work. I love them. They also work when working on the truck. The magnet is very useful.

This is what I was going to recommend.  add a krazyglue tube for a  diffuser and you are set.

Those were 10 bucks at my hardware store a few weeks ago, I bought 5 and one with a laser pointer. Already changed a tire in the dark with one stuck in the wheel well, magnet is strong.

You can get them on eBay for $8.85 with free shipping. Just ordered a gray one to try out.

I got my Larry today (quick shipping) and I'm quite pleased with it. It's plenty bright and I think it will be great for night fishing when tying knots and such. I clipped it on a lanyard and you can prop it against your chest so the light is pointed down.

I really hate headlamps so this is a very good alternative for me. Thanks OP. I just ordered two more.

BTW, has anyone tried to see how long the batteries last?
