A lot of posters here are fond of military wool blankets. I don't know why. They are nothing really special. Plenty of relatively inexpensive wool blankets at yard sales, flea markets, and similar places. eBay has them as well. +1 I've bought 4-5 wool blankets within the last few months at Goodwill's for $3-$8 each. |

Start running searches and look around. Read reviews. As already mentioned there are sometimes some deals where a bit of your time and energy will save you some money. Some of the fancy new wool blankets out there are a lot nicer looking than the surplus ones I have around, but I won't pay high prices for them. Everytime wool blankets get discussed someone brings up the microfiber blankets at walmart and what not. The microfiber are almost dry when you pull them out of the washing machine, therefore they don't try to hold water like a wool blanket will. I have some microfiber blankets as well. I have bought some of the surplus blankets from old grouch and I think mine were listed as slightly damaged or something. I consider them perfect for keeping in a vehicle or something and the nicest ones are sometimes used inside during the winter. I have bought some surplus blankets from other places, just depends on who has some they are wanting to move. Run searches and compare sizes and weights when they list stuff. Run searches on people discussing various wool blankets. |

You are in NY.
A wool blanket in the winter is better than nothing, but if you need to stay warm in your vehicle, you will be far better off with a good sleeping bag. Even the cheapest sleeping bag from Walmart is going to be warmer than any wool blanket. A sleeping bag that will keep you warm in an upstate NY winter is still going to be less expensive than the trunk full of surplus wool blankets you would need to stay warm, and take up a lot less space. http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=311378 |
