My boys are getting ready to move out and I thought I would fix up, a Gen 1 MSR Whisperlite I bought in 80 something for one of them. I wanted to buy a new Shaker Jet Hose and a new fuel pump. I called MSR and they said –> send it in and we will upgrade it to a shaker jet plus sell you a new pump for $45.

Ok sounds fair.  I sent it off and got back a completely new shaker jet stove w/ new pump. They only charged me $35…..

They also sent a new check valve assembly and oil for my other Whisperlite for free (they refused to sell it despite me telling them it was ok to charge me multiple times).

The Gen 1 originally came with a fabric covered fuel line. At some point, MSR replaced that fuel line with a new metal covered line for free.  They had records of this when I called.

Damn MSR, not only do they make a good product and produce it in the USA, they stand behind it and are more than fair upgrading your gear to the latest gen!

You got me as a life long customer!


ETA - I did find one thing curious about the new stove is the fuel line length has increased by approx 150%. ???  
Lawyers? I have never heard of a fuel tank getting too hot and exploding. And I never had any trouble setting up the stove with the shorter length....

+1 - I have had nothing but great experiences with them--even if it is something that you would reasonably expect to wear out over time.  Most recently I had a part break on a snowshoe, and they just replaced the snowshoes.

Great experience here too.



Had a leaky filter pump. 9 days from the time I shipped till I had a new in my hand.
