5.11 Rush 12 or 24.

I can't recommend them enough. I use a Rush 24 for hiking, camping, and travelling and the Rush 12 is my EDC/diaper bag. They are very well made, have excellent organization, come in several different colors, and both in your price range.

Heracles Operation Backpack

I haven't tested it, but I have played with it in the office. I like it more than my Triple Aught Design EDC.

Much cheaper too.

I have been using a Camelbak MOTHERLODE daily for several years now.  It is my everyday pack (replaced my Camelback MULE, needed more room).  Goes with me in the truck or on the bike.  Carries two bladders if I need it, and enough gear for overnight trips or hiking home on foot.

The thing that repeatedly sells me on Camelbaks is the quality.  I also own a Scorpius (Mystery Ranch / Dana Designs) backpacking pack and I'm sure I could fall down the side of a mountain with it and it would still be in one piece.

Fallcon II

This is my go to bag.. Hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, you name it, its been through it all. 4 years old, and the only sign of wear is the color Is slightly faded from the sun.

I'm using the Osprey Manta 28 as my GHB.

Fits nicely under the rear seat in my Jeep.

I have this pack (http://www.amazon.com/Patagonia-47925-Chacabuco-Pack-Black/dp/B003M9Q40Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1379748795&sr=8-1&keywords=patagonia+chacabuco) that I love, been great so far.

It looks civilian, but is super durable.

I use this and LOVE it. I can't speak highly enough about it... On sale it's close to your budget... It's so nice I'm thinking about getting another one.

Lol I see stuff way too expensive and stuff covered in external MOLLE. I'd suggest a grey ghost stealth operator in grey. Cheap, grey man, light enough to get home depending on your AO.

This.  Watch amazon, you should be able to snag a Kestrel 3800 and its a helluva comfortable pack.  Nicest non-Kifaru pack I've owned.

Ugh, cool to look at, shit to wear.  I had one of the first run of these in MC, and sold it off pretty quickly.  Don't forget, you may actually have to carry you BoB for long distances.  Buy a pack made for backpacking.

I would stay away from the LAPG packs for serious use. The zippers are difficult and doesn't have much internal organizing.

What is your definition of "medium" sized packs so we can get a reference? The packs suggested in this thread range from 1100 cu in to 2800 cu in...

Take a look at the new 2013 Camelbak Miltac Hawg. Similar in profile to the tactical tailor removable operator pack but with compression straps, internal organization, 200 cu in larger, and a (non load bearing) waist belt.

I know you’re looking for a get home bag, which I would assume is your typical “3-day/72-hour” pack.  Before making a decision on the frameless design, figure out how much weight you’ll be carrying and typical distances you’ll be carrying it.

Once you get over 20 pounds, you really need to consider a frame and functional waist belt.  For just a few hours of hiking, it’s not really necessary, but if you have several miles over a few days, you’ll appreciate a decent load-carrying frame and waist belt.

I believe he already purchased a grey ghost as he said, but maybe he can do a review of the pack for us.

Sorry no review yet, my pack came in and looks pretty good but I am in the proccess of moving and havent had an opertunity  to load it up yet. As far as the comments on frameless packs for my use a frame pack  wont under my seat to keep it out of sight, with my job I am at some areas where my truck gets searched and a big framed pack is a red flag and the next thing you know I have to unload the pack and let the rent a cops finger fuck everything inside.

Are you active duty or LEO?  You would qualify for the discount for Mountain Hardwear.

Other than that, keep an eye on Steep&Cheap, they put packs up all the time.

Not sure why everyone is posting up tacticool packs when you said you didn't want one.

EDIT to add: Here are a bunch: http://www.steepandcheap.com/steepcheap/gear-cache/3669?AVAD=14989_f472b897 and http://www.steepandcheap.com/steepcheap/gear-cache/2725?AVAD=14989_f472b897

"Non camo" doesn't exactly mean not tactical.

Either way he already purchased a pack as stated twice above.
