Posted this over in the Blades forum as well.
I have always had a pocket knife on me since at least the sixth grade. I found my first one at about age 6 and was given my Boy Scout Knife when I was in Cub Scouts.

Recently I dug out my old BSA Western sheath knife when I was cleaning out some things at my mother's house. It had been "lost" at some point when we moved and after 40 years resurfaced in an old tool bag in the attic. Rusted up with some pitting, I have buffed the blade, sharpened it and am attempting to put a forced patina on it after reading some threads here.

Anyway, I have experimented with my daily carry and it has evolved over the last few years into one of these two versions:

or

The S&W is an okay knife and clipped in my pocket its quick enough one handed. The Case is an older one I received from my Dad when I was about 20. Not as quick of course from the belt sheath but a nice knife. I've got another similar folder to the Case I use occaisionally. That little SAK gets used just about everyday off and on at work or just messing around. Tweezers, toothpick, scissors - with my personal hygiene in order, the larger blades get used for everything from opening plan sets at work, cutting boxes, work materials, whittling, cutting up food out hiking around, cleaning the occaisional fish, etc.
I just like sitting around messing with them in front of the TV.

Anyone else carrying a similar set up? I have found that the addition of either a small back packing saw, or hatchet or even my larger sheath knife makes a pretty complete package for some fun woodsman work.

I have tried multi-tools - just never warmed up to them. I carry my Camillus BSA knife out messing around in the woods some. I have a Stockman and another Boker Barlow style I like alot but I always go back to one of the above pairs. Works for me for most tasks I have encountered.

Any criticism welcome. Show me what you carry each day and why it works for you.

Over Christmas, I picked up the SAK SwissChamp with Zermatt leather belt pouch and sharpening steel and I've been carrying that for a while.  It's replaced my original Leatherman SuperTool v.1, which is a bit more robust, but a little less flexible, having fewer items.

Man that thing has got all sorts of goodies on it.  I like the SAK's.  Lots of practical choices.
Actually I could use that fairly easy.  I have short fingers so the geometry of the multi-tool pliers makes it harder for me to use it effectively.  The other tools are great tho.  Leatherman, Gerber and CRKT have some more curved "ergonomic" multi tools I have not tried but they may change the way I look at them for every day carry and use.

Til then, I have evolved - or devolved depending on your perspective - to the larger folder and the smaller SAK.

I've got your little SAK on my keychain and I've had a few of those over the years.  My dad's a doctor and gets them all of the time from the drug companies and gives them to me.

I ran movie theatres in Miami for seven years and the Leatherman ST was a godsend and has seen lots of hard use.  I'm on my second after leaving one at the X-ray machine at MIA.  It's not the most comfortable to grip, but it's heavy duty and has saved me many a time.

The SwissChamp is a bit more elegant, but I don't think I'd want to go hammering nails into plywood, like I did with my LM, last month when my BIL and I built a garage at my dad's place.

Still, I guess it comes down to the 'right tool for the job' and I'm glad I have both, or all three.

Victorinox Explorer.  It has the Phillips on the end instead of the middle making it a viable screwdriver.  Blades and scissors used daily,  screwdrivers about weekly, corkscrew and bottle opener often enough.  The magnifier comes in handy for old eyes.   The can opener is pretty good, too.  I'd delete the hook if I could - the awl occasionally comes in handy.  It would be perfect if it had a file and a small saw in the same size package.

I've tried carrying pocket clip folders and multitools but this thing has everything I really need in a very small package.

Having a good multi-tool or Swiss Army knife is good to have with you for most any outdoor activity.  However, for more aggressive cutting tasks and/or possible defensive use, I like Benchmade and Cold Steel knives.

Purty sweet.  I like SAK's.  Usually alot of bang for your buck.  I will look at one of these - I do carry my old Camillus BSA knife some and it has the Phillips head screw driver as well.  The little screw driver on the finger nail file of my little SAK has been used a lot.

I have been carrying that S&W for awhile and its no Cold Steel and definitely no Benchmade knife.  If and when it breaks on me, I will probably look at Cold Steel folders for cost vs durability.

I settled on the two knives -  the SAK and one of the 3-4" folders because most of my daily tasks are covered by the two.
