Hello Everyone,
I am looking for a new Day Pack. My old Jansport backpack finally died and its time to find a replacement. I don't want anything that looks "tactical". This needs to look like a normal pack; but if I has a few extra features I wouldn't complain. So, what does the hive suggest?

Thanks,
Accountant

How about a regular nondescript school backpack like a Jansport?  Not being smart, but if your last one works, get a new one and give it a go.

kelty,,camel back..etc etc all make decent day packs. how big are you looking?'

my day pack is either a kelty lumbar pack or my cback mule( woodland camo) both are plenty for day hikes imho.

I have an LL Bean Day Trekker.

I've had it about a year and it's held up pretty well and they have a lifetime no BS guarantee.

Agreed, that would be the easy choice; but I presume backpack technology has progressed in the last 15 years. If there isn't a gold standard that the hive recommends, then I will just order a replacement. So far, the following look good:

1. LL Bean Ridge Runner 25 Day Pack
2. Jansport Tulare
3. Duluth Trading Company Dozer Jr Firehose Backpack
4. North Face Recon Daypack

All the backpacks, except for the Duluth Trading Company pack, have a Laptop / Tablet compartment. This feature is important to me; but I like the durability of the Firehose material enough to overlook their oversight.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

To broaden my recommendation a bit, I like and have had good luck with a Kelty Redwing.  It's a bit too big for day hike at 2900 cu/in, but they have several offerings that are bit smaller and some that accommodate laptops.

I was going to recommend this -- note this has a place for a hydration bladder too

But maybe this for the lap top compartment?

CarbineKids daypack is REI house brand and I use it all the time, more than he does.  Non tactical green, lots of features and attachments for a small bag

ETA:  his is last years Trail 25

ive had packs from literally every big and small name maker on my back at one time or another. I still come back to Jansport for my daypack though. Kelty's Avocet 30 is so far working nice for me too for a little bigger load. Its comfortable and fits my torso length really well. Plus it has load lifters from the shoulder straps, something the jansports usually do not offer. Highly recommend you at least measure your torso length and buy a pack that is made to fit that length if you are set on buying one online without trying it on.

I want to HIGHLY preach and praise the Maxpedetion Pigmy Falcon II. it is by far the best, multipurpose day pack out there. Quality, durability, and perfect size. I've had mine in the woods, in the work place, at functions, at county fairs, walking the mall with the GF, and it is by far hte best I have found.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I ordered a pack from The North Face. I will post a review when it arrives.

Was $75 now $35

Some other Oakley packs.

I use an Oakley Panel Pack every day and love it.  Have it in two colors.  I prefer top loading packs and this has been great.  One actually serves as my range bag.
