Well, I managed to go for the better part of a year without getting rained on seriously, but now have been rained on 3 times in 5 days. Saturday, Monday, and today.
The combination of the waterproof parka I got from Walmart and my cheap poncho kept me dry from the knees up, but as has been my experience in the past with ponchos, I get wet below the edge of the poncho. While keeping my pack and the top half of me dry works out OK for shorter periods of time, I just am not thrilled with being soaked below the poncho. The options seem to be limited for good waterproof pants that are not insanely expensive and can also be put on over boots. If I know it is going to rain I probably won't go out, so I need something I can get on without having to take off my boots. Just have not found anything I like yet. Maybe some kind of nylon track suit type pants. |

If you are looking at a slip over, check out Motorcycle rain gear.
Its designed to go over your clothes including your boots. Tj BTW, Check Jafrum.com. I have a nice, actually quite heavy, double lined set I use for the mortorcycle but have an inexpensive light what they call "Off Road" I use for mud riding, camping, etc. The one I have is called the "Thunder" like $35, and a one piece still made to simply jump in boots and all. They have a new one this year, much lighter called the "Thor" which is a very light nylon two piece. The pants are baggy well because they're made to throw on with your boots on. Its only $20. Anyway, its better stuff than the plastic crap you get at Walmart. |

They make good stuff. Here's the actual link: http://www.jafrum.com/Shop-By-Brand/Thor-Jerseys/Thor-Rain-Suit-Thor-Off-Road-Rain-Suit Wouldn't be a bad set at all IMO. |
