I think I would "exhaust" all other methods of cooking before resorting to this method.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manifold_Destiny_(cookbook).

This classic cookbook tells you how to use various hot––and warm–– spots on most car/truck engines to cook and warm food.

Back OT, how does one secure the cooker to the tailpipe so that it doesn't rattle loose during travel?

Damn....I thought I was being really creative when I did that on a date in high school.  The book has me beat by 10 years (first released in 1989!)

Why would you use this device as opposed to cooking inside the engine compartment? Seems it would be not only safer, but more efficient.

Now not only does your running vehicle scream "Shoulda prepped dumbasses!!" as you drive by the masses stuck on the interstates, it also drives home a nice " Hunger sucks doesn't it?" with the smell of juicy burgers cookin.

Since it only heats the top side, you'd probably have to stop at least once to flip your burger...

I think he was going for the alliteration of "Bugout" and "BBQ".

He could have said "Grill while you go" and been more precise, but I think he deserves some slack given the nature of the forum where the topic was introduced.  YMMV.

Shut the garage door and rev the engine to build up heat and cook faster.
