I stopped in one of the local shops and found a handy tool for backpacking or just keeping in the truck.  I was checking out the guns and saw a Marlin Model 70P Papoose.  The best thing about this is they had it priced at $100.  Needless to say I've added this little item to my collection.  For those of you who don't know what the Marlin Papoose is, it is a break down rifle based on the Model 70 which consists of the stock/action and the barrel whic is removable.  It comes with a 7 round mag and a case that holds the disassembled rifle.  The case is supposed to float but I don't intend to test this out anytime soon.  Now I just have to add a couple more mags and I'll be set

Great find!  I regret pasing on buying one at Walmart years ago.

I bought one right after high school.  My first independent purchase.  Still sitting by my jump bag, but I will never get rid of it.  $90 way back when.

I was planning on buying one of those until the Ruger 10/22 Takedown came out and I bought that instead. If I found a 70P for $100 I'd still buy it.

Good find! I am constantly stopping by the local second hand stores and pawn shops.  Just bought a 1950's Coleman two burner camp stove for $5 in a local second hand store.

Got it home, inspected it, put fuel in the tank, and had it running in short order.  Took it with me the next day camping and cooked all the meals on it.

It's amazing what a guy can find if he's patient and looks around.

I picked one up at a gunshow for $90 a few years ago, but it did not have the case. Nice little rifle. It has been in my GHB on more than a few road trips. Let me know if you find any mags, I have not been able to find any that work in mine. Something about it being a pre 86? model. I think they had different mags than the current Marlins. I would for sure pick up a few if I knew they would work.

The current Marlin 795 10rd mags work in them, also  the older Marlin 70 7rd & 10rd mags.

Keltec SU16.  Folds up and fits in a day pack.  30 round mags.  Mine lives in my car with four magazines just in case I need to clear a path to get home.

I stupidly passed on one last year for the same price. It was a really nice wood stocked version. They're handy little rifles.

Nice pick up.  I like those little rifles, but when back packing I just carry my MKIII 22/45.  Smaller and makes good accurate shots.

It came with 1 mag.  There's a fun show in Amarillo next week so I'll take it along and check out some mags for it.

I love my stainless Papoose!

I've killed dozens of squirrels with it. I bought mine new in ~2008 and have been really happy with it. No mag issues. The only downside is that the rear sight leaf is flimsy. It seems like it would snap off fairly easily.

good find at a great price.

try different ammo. Mine will feed and fire anything so long as the ogive is roundish.  Bulk box fed or rem is fine.  Cheap anything is fine, so long as it is round nosed.  Mine will not chamber a Rem Viper or Yellow Jacket or anything else with a flat nosed profile.

Find any? The company that put on that show is the same one that does most of the panhandle shows. Lubbock didn't have anything 2 weeks ago along those lines, but there was a guy walking around with a 1918 that a buddy of mine managed to trade a early 1911 for.

The show I'm going to check out is July 21-22.  Maybe I'll get luck and find some mags for it.

I recently ordered a preban 25 rnd mag for a Papoose - it is for my 989 M2 - which is basically a model 70. Model 70, 795, Paoose - all samey samey - although I think there's a slight difference with earlier models not having bolt hold-open. I would like some 10 rounders - I hear the 15 rounders are crap. 7's and 10's work fine. Wish I could convert my rifle to a takedown.

Went to the Amarillo fun show and scored 2 of the 10 round mags for $17 each.  I usually look for T&G Sales for my magazine or speed loader needs.  He's located in The Colony, TX.  Email is [email protected].  He usually has just about anything I'm looking for.  At the last show he had magazines for my Remington 513 bolt action, Kahr CW, and S&W model 39.
