I need a small flashlight for general purpose use, probably 2 - AA cells. I am considering a Fenix LD22 (updated version of LD20).
Should I look at something else? Does anyone have one of these? |
| Both the Fenix LD22 and E21 are on sale 15% off during Battery Junction's Memorial Day sale |

Great thrower. Uses P60 head so you can upgrade the LED indefinitely as technology advances. That way your expensive flashlight isn't obsolete in a couple of years. http://www.dereelight.com/pills.htm |

I just purchased a used 4sevens Quark AA that the owner replaced the stock LED with a High Color Rendition Index XPG.
I replaced the switch with a forward click tactical switch. Tight bezel it is turbo mode which is close to 200 lumens with a single 14500 Liion rechargeable. It has 4 standard modes from moonlight to high of about 90 lumens with the bezel loosened. I can drop in a standard AA Nimh and still get about 100 lumens out of Turbo mode. Carry is effortless in any kind of clothing. Pocket clip can be used for bezel up or down carry by changing the body direction. Set up for bezel up carry I can turn it on and clip it to the bill of my cap to use as a headlight. 4sevens has a deep carry clip to carry it flush with the top of your pocket. I plan on getting one soon. |

4sevens AA tactical Its multi mode, uses two AA cells, has a pocket clip and a momentary/clicky tailcap switch. I have had mine for a few months and like it. This or the regular version. Quark makes a great light. Fenix and Klarus are both great lights too. |

Quark has been hving a sale for a while now; apparently there is some sort of non-important logo change upcoming. Regerdless, many quark vendors have been allowed to sell-off stock at significant savings.
Quark has a wide range of products, some of which meet your criteria. I own a couple, and good products they are, especially of you can find them while they are on-sale. |

You might also take a look at the Sunwayman V20A.
It has a ring around the flashlight head that allows you to instantly dial up any brightness level - from 1 to 210 lumens - without any switch-clicking or memorization procedures. The ring is magnetically-coupled to the LED control circuit inside the flashlight head - There is no physical connection between them, so there is no opening for water or dust to get inside. |

I bought it on the advise of many in this forum. I usually run a single 14500 Li-ion battery in it, and, as others have mentioned- probably 200 L on the Turbo setting. |

I bought a Fenix LD20 a few years back after reading all the rave reviews. I really wanted to standardize on AA batteries, so I didn't consider a Surefire. The Fenix worked about a year and then just quit. Did get dropped, didn't get mistreated in any way, just quit. I have cheapo AA lights bought for a few bucks in discount stores that lasted much better. I still have it somewhere. Maybe it will make a good fishing weight.
I learned my lesson. I surrendered to having to also stock CR123 batteries and bought a Surefire, Problem solved. |

I picked up both the JetBeam BA-20 and the Klarus P2A 2xAA, dual mode lights. The JB I think is 30LM and 270LM and the Klarus is 20LM and 245LM.
They almost look like they were made by the same factory, they're that similar. For $35 and $40 delivered, I can't complain. I got them mostly to round out the battery choices I might have/need down the road, not wanting to put all of my eggs in one basket. They're obviously a bit longer, but they are slender and fit into my shorts' pocket quite well. Chris |

I have Fenix and 4Sevens single AA lights (LD10 and Quark AA tactical), and they work great.
For pocket/everyday use, I think the single AA lights work very well. LED tech has advanced to the point where a single Alkaline AA can give a significant amount of light for quite a while. |

I've had an LD10 for just over 3 years that sees regular every day use. I've noticed in the last couple months that when activating the tail switch that it won't always turn on and I have to tap the light or give it a squeeze. This has been an awesome little light, but I'm concerned about the intermittent functioning now. Anyone know of a fix?
My son has had a single AA County Comm light that has been in heavy use for almost 2 years with no issues. I still have my original version 2 single AA Inova X1 that is going on 5 years of use. |

Try using some strong rubbing alcohol (or HEET fuel system dryer) to clean the flashlight's battery contacts and mating surfaces between the tailcap & body, and between the head & body. If you're using rechargeable batteries, also clean the contacts on the batteries themselves. Chances are pretty good that a little oxidation has built up on at least one of those surfaces. |

Score!!! Just like new again. At this point I'm considering the new LD22, these lights are great value and with little maintenance hold up really well.

Sometimes a pencil eraser can be used to the same effect; just be sure to get rid of the small eraser fragments that result, lest they gum up the innards of the flashlight. The grey ink erasers, usually found at stationery stores (or maybe Staples) are even better, as they are a bit harder. |
